The Department of the Air Force's Final Environmental Impact Statement reveals that Starship could launch up to 76 times annually, with Super Heavy boosters returning minutes after liftoff and Starship upper stages landing back on the same pad after missions lasting hours or even years.
The EIS introduces an unprecedented operational concept: Super Heavy boosters will launch, reach orbit, and be caught by tower chopsticks within seven minutes. Meanwhile, the Starship upper stage will complete its mission, whether a short orbital test, a lunar landing, or a multi-year Mars cargo run, and return to the exact same pad upon completion.
This means a Starship launched from Florida in 2027 could land back at the same site in 2030 or later, alongside a brand-new stack preparing for its journey. The 214-page document treats these multi-year round trips as routine, effectively transforming the location into a pioneering interplanetary spaceport.
While the project is generally considered safe, the EIS identifies two areas requiring mitigation: sonic booms from booster and Starship returns will cause community annoyance, especially at night, and nitrogen oxide emissions during launches will exceed federal thresholds, necessitating real-time monitoring. Other impacts, such as traffic, wildlife, wetlands, and historic sites, are deemed manageable under existing permits and strategies. The Air Force's Record of Decision and FAA concurrence are expected soon, paving the way for the site's redevelopment into a dual-tower Starship complex.
Tesla's FSD Testing Gains Momentum in Europe:
Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) testing is making significant progress in Europe, particularly in Spain. The country's new ES-AV framework program, launched in July 2025, has positioned Spain as a key testing hub for automated vehicles.
