A recent report from Dan Rafael suggested Safar, a cruiserweight contender, would not meet Ramirez on January 16, with Ramirez possibly moving straight into the high-profile clash with David Benavidez on May 2.
Safar himself provided an update the next day while speaking with FightsATW at the Jack vs Mikaelian 2 event in Los Angeles. He explained, “After my last fight, I sustained a knuckle injury in my right hand. We’re aiming to push the date to February on the undercard of the Ryan Garcia fight. It would be fantastic if that could happen. If that fight doesn’t materialize, there are certainly other opportunities I can pursue. I’m focused on securing a title eliminator and ultimately becoming world champion. There are many opponents I want to face, so I’m taking it one day at a time.”
If Ryan Garcia’s title challenge against Mario Barrios proceeds on February 21, Ramirez would have just over two months to recover and prepare for the anticipated showdown with “El Bandera Roja.” However, this scheduling would be less than ideal, as Safar (19-0, 13 KOs) is capable of pushing Ramirez and increasing the risk of further injury—each round carrying its own uncertainties.
