Ollie Bearman's journey in Formula 1 has been nothing short of remarkable, and his impact on the Haas team is a testament to his potential as a top driver. While his on-track performances have been impressive, it's his ability to motivate and inspire those around him that truly sets him apart. This is the insight shared by Ayao Komatsu, the Haas Team Principal, who has been closely observing Bearman's progress.
Komatsu highlights Bearman's consistent improvement and his ability to absorb and apply information as key strengths. The young Briton's performance in the first two races of the 2026 season, where he finished at the top of the midfield in both Australia and China, and scored in the Sprint in Shanghai, is a clear indication of his growing confidence and skill. But it's his attitude and approach that truly make him stand out.
"He takes steps every single time," Komatsu remarked during the Team Representatives press conference in Suzuka. "You saw how much he improved throughout last year, right? His speed has never been in doubt, but it's his consistency that has improved significantly towards the end of last year. Mexico, P4, was amazing under huge pressure."
Komatsu's praise extends beyond Bearman's on-track results. He appreciates Bearman's ability to work closely with engineers and mechanics, providing valuable feedback and continuously improving. This collaborative spirit has led to a more cohesive and efficient team, with Bearman's positive attitude playing a pivotal role.
"The thing is that his attitude is very, very positive," Komatsu explained. "He brings the best out of people around him, engineers, mechanics, everyone. Even when a less than ideal situation happens, he doesn't depress people; instead, he motivates them to solve problems quicker."
Bearman's sudden F1 debut in 2024, when he impressed with a seventh-place finish in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, and his full-time debut in 2025 for Haas, where he achieved the team's best result in Mexico City, showcase his rapid development. Komatsu's belief in Bearman's potential is evident, and he sees no limits to his growth.
"I can’t see the ceiling, so that’s the exciting part," Komatsu added. This sentiment underscores the belief that Bearman has the talent and mindset to become a top driver, and his ability to inspire and motivate those around him will be crucial to his success in the sport.
