A Music Icon's Health Battle: 'Everything Went Wrong'
In a heartfelt and revealing interview, Phil Collins, the legendary musician, has opened up about his health struggles as he nears his 75th birthday. Speaking to Zoe Ball for the BBC's 'Eras' podcast, Collins reflected on his remarkable career and the challenges he's faced in recent years.
'I have a 24-hour nurse by my side to ensure I take my medications properly,' Collins shared, highlighting the severity of his health issues. He then detailed a series of ailments, including knee problems, Covid-19, and kidney complications, stating, 'Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.'
But here's where it gets controversial: Collins hinted at excessive drinking as a potential factor in his kidney issues. 'I probably drank too much, and my kidneys suffered,' he admitted. 'I wasn't a night owl, but I'd drink during the day, and I guess it caught up with me.'
And this is the part most people miss: Collins' health decline has impacted his creative passion. He revealed to MOJO magazine last year that he's lost his appetite for recording, attributing it to his illnesses. 'I think about going to the studio, but I've been very sick.'
Despite these challenges, Collins remains optimistic about his career. 'I couldn't have asked for a more diverse and eventful musical journey,' he said during the podcast. His upcoming docu-concert, 'The Phil Collins Story,' celebrates his life and music, premiering in Syracuse next month.
