M60 LIVE traffic updates: Motorway fully closed due to flooding
The M60 motorway is currently closed to all traffic due to severe flooding caused by a sewage infrastructure malfunction. The closure affects the anticlockwise side of the motorway, from junction 17 for Prestwich and Whitefield to junction 14 for the East Lancashire Road. This closure is unrelated to the planned roadworks, which were scheduled to end at 5 am.
National Highways has confirmed that the flooding, occurring between junctions 16 and 15, is the result of a local sewage infrastructure malfunction. Specialist support has been requested and is being mobilized to address the issue. Traffic delays are expected to persist until the affected carriageway is deemed safe.
Long queues are building up to the closure, and a diversion route is in place around the roadworks. Drivers are advised to allow extra journey time and expect delays in the area.
