Bold headline: Google integrates AI Overviews with AI Mode, making deeper insights a one-click experience.
Google is piloting a feature that automatically pairs AI Overviews with the AI Mode experience for select queries. This integration enables users to ask follow-up questions or seek additional information about a topic with a single tap.
In a post on X, Robby Stein, Google Search’s Vice President, described the update as a new way to seamlessly explore AI Mode directly from the mobile Search results page. He noted that merging AI Mode with AI Overviews allows users to inquire freely without worrying about precise question phrasing.
Previously, users had to anticipate the kind of questions they would search for or manually switch to the AI Mode tab to chat with the Gemini-powered assistant. By combining the two features, Google appears to be evaluating whether maintaining separate tools is necessary or if a unified approach is more effective.

This move brings Google closer to a vision of Search where you can ask anything that comes to mind—no matter how long or complex—and still find exactly what you’re after.
A short video demonstrates how users can access the new capability: tap the Show more button, then select Dive deeper in AI Mode. While the consolidation of AI Mode and AI Overview may speed up answers, it could also reduce the number of clicks users make to reach publishers and websites.
In addition to the feature test, Google is expanding Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro within Google Search to about 120 countries and territories, with English as the initial language. Access will be limited to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers.
