Glasgow Warriors are riding high, and their captain, Kyle Steyn, is ready to take on the giants! After a dominant victory against Clermont, securing their spot in the knockout stages of the Champions Cup, the Warriors are setting their sights on a clash with the formidable Saracens. Steyn, who impressively scored two tries in the match, is clearly brimming with confidence. This marks their third consecutive bonus-point victory this season – a testament to their strong teamwork and strategy. But here's where it gets interesting...
Steyn highlighted the team's cohesion, stating, "We've just got a really good group that's been together for a number of years now and just really keen to play for each other." The electric atmosphere of the game was palpable, adding to the team's motivation.
The Warriors initially surged ahead with a commanding 26-7 lead, but the second half saw a tense fightback from Clermont, particularly after Patrick Schickerling and George Horne were sent to the sin bin. Steyn's second try ultimately calmed the nerves, leading Franco Smith's side to a 33-21 victory.
"We were obviously very nervous (in the second half) and you don't want that, but we had a clear plan of what we had to do if something like that (two yellow cards) happened," Steyn admitted. He also praised the forwards for stepping up during those crucial 10 minutes when they were down to 13 players. "Really proud of our forwards the way they stepped up in that 10 minutes. 14 points we leaked in that 10 minutes but it was okay."
Now, the stakes are higher than ever. A win against Saracens at Scotstoun next Sunday would not only see Glasgow top Pool 1 but also secure a home tie in the Round of 16. Steyn knows the challenge ahead, acknowledging Saracens' prowess in European rugby. "Saracens are a really good outfit, they thrive in their rugby in Europe," he said. He's clearly looking forward to the match, especially with the support of their home fans. Could this be the year Glasgow Warriors make a deep run in the Champions Cup? What do you think?
