Mum Demands Full Refund After 'Disastrous' Butlins Getaway

A family's holiday at a popular resort turned into a nightmare, leaving one mother demanding a full refund. The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared her horrific experience, detailing the poor condition of the accommodation and the subsequent unpleasant odour.

The family, consisting of the mother, her two young children, her twin sister, and her sister's two children, had high hopes for their four-night stay at Butlins in Bognor Regis. However, the reality was far from ideal.

The twins paid a substantial amount of just under £1,100 for the entire family's accommodation and meals for four nights. Yet, their stay was cut short after just one day due to the appalling state of the rooms.

The 41-year-old mother, from Brighton, expressed her disappointment, stating that she had trusted Butlins as a well-known British brand. However, the accommodation fell far short of her expectations.

Upon arrival, the family encountered numerous issues, including holes in the walls, peeling furniture, broken doors, stains everywhere, and malfunctioning lights. The mother described the scene as resembling a chaotic adult weekend, with signs of a fight and damaged furniture.

The family's troubles intensified when they were moved to a new room at 9 p.m. due to the initial room's poor condition. Unfortunately, the new room had its own set of problems, emitting a 'vomit-like' smell. The source of this unpleasant odour was discovered the next morning - a drip tray behind the fridge, filled with rotting milk.

Adding to their distress, the mother found her son's bed linen stained and covered in 'mould marks', which was particularly concerning given her son's learning disabilities. She emphasized the importance of cleanliness for her son's well-being.

Frustrated and disappointed, the family decided to leave a day early. Despite their complaints, they were only refunded for half of their stay, leaving them feeling they deserved a full refund. The mother expressed her determination to pursue the remaining amount, stating that she had worked hard for her money and expected better service from a branded hotel.

Butlins, in response, offered a refund covering accommodation, dining, and missed activities, which was accepted during their stay. However, the company acknowledged the subpar standard of accommodation and promised to address the issues to ensure future guests' satisfaction.
